Hoax or joke

- It's one of many names of a sort of "folletto" or sprite or goblin in the northern-italian folklore.
- it's usually depicted as a sort of furry sprite or squirrel
- specific local traditions vary greatly, probably some reminescences of ancient pagan cults, some times associated with the devil and terror horror sort of tales.

- I looked at the sources you posted above. The first was in Italian (I can't read Italian). The third source didn't mention the word Squasc though it described a being that you wrote about above. The second source is a blog (an unreliable source.) I guess what I am saying is that I don't know what to do. Can you help?
