No, I don't recommend the merge. Sport Bowling is not just a part of bowling. Like the PBA Tour, Sport Bowling is a concept that, when properly written, can turn out to be a great article.

Bowling is experiencing the same problems as golf. The good thing about golf is that one can counter club and golf ball technology with golf course conditioning, such as making the greens harder, narrowing the fairways, or lengthening the fairways. Bowling, however, in its traditional form, has it where the ball is far advancing ahead of the lanes. Today, leagues are still played on wood, and use the same oil patters that were used years earlier. Even with the increase in pin weight (about 4 ounces more,) the pins are no match.

In short, the bowling balls today are destroying the sport more than it is helping. In golf, the scoring average is basically the same, so the club/field ratio is even. In bowling, we're witnessing far too many 300 games and 250-plus averages in regular league play. Just watch YouTube and see what's happening. Bowling is becoming less popular among the average people. We're seeing hundreds of bowling facilities shutting down.

The USBC is doing the right thing, by offering tougher lane conditions for people who want the challenge. So once again, Sport Bowling is not just a drop in the overall bowling picture. groink 03:18, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
