- Rays inhale water through their spiracles. Polypteris inhales air through its spiracle. Usually it's something involving water or air going in or out, often with chemoreceptors for detecting free oxygen, CO2, etc. Zyxwv99 (talk) 20:57, 17 August 2015 (UTC)
Spiracles are also missing in some pelagic sharks
