Spierings Cranes is a Dutch manufacturer of large mobile tower cranes. The company is based in the city of Oss, the Netherlands. As of 2026, Spierings has delivered cranes to 32 countries, across five continents. Over 1,500 Spierings cranes are in operation around the world.[1] [2]

History

[edit]

Spierings Cranes was founded in 1987 by Leo Spierings and his wife Tiny[1] To fund the development of their first mobile tower crane, the company started with service and maintenance.[2] In 1989 Leo built Spierings’ first mobile tower crane, the SK345-AT3.[2]

After Tiny’s death in 2001, Leo named Spierings’ SK1265-AT6 crane the ‘Mighty Tiny’ in 2003, as a tribute to his late wife.[3] [4]The 350th was delivered in 2023.[5] Leo and Tiny’s nephew, Koos Spierings, joined the company in 2011 and took over as CEO of Spierings in 2017.[1] [6]

In 2019, Spierings introduced the first ever mobile tower crane capable of lifting and driving on electricity only, the SK487-AT3 "City Boy" eDrive.[7][8][9][10] The City Boy can be connected to the power grid, or use its battery to operate fully electrically for two to four hours.[7][8][9]

In 2020, the company introduced its eLift technology, through which emission-free lifting through a standard power connection was made possible, allowing the operator to choose pure electric lifting or diesel-based lifting.[1][11] In March 2023, Spierings Cranes announced an end to diesel-only powered cranes, only making hybrid or purely electric (eDrive) cranes. Instead, they would only keep producing hybrid models.[12][13]

Spierings Cranes was awarded the ESTA-award in the category Innovation in 2019 and 2022.[14][15] In 2026 they won the Koning Willem I-prijs, a prestigious award for companies that excel in entrepreneurship, innovation and social impact.[16][17][18] According to the jury “Spierings knows how to successfully translate technological innovations into proper and future-proof products”.[16] The prize was awarded by Queen Máxima of the Netherlands, who, as part of the award, would visit the Spierings factory in Oss.[17]

As of 2026, Spierings Cranes are used in Europe, Asia, Africa, North-America and Oceania. [2][19][20][21][22] In 2026 Spierings also introduced a renewed crane cab as part of their ongoing development of mobile tower cranes, its aim being to adapt the operator’s workplace to changing requirements in ergonomics, safety and comfort. The changes include improved visibility, adjustable seating, integrated safety systems and enhanced climate control.[23]

  • Why it should be changed:

The current page is outdated and incomplete. Client asked me to write a new version that represents current state of affairs. I have aimed to do so in a factual, neutral way.
