Making soviet republic refer to council republic and not the other way around
[edit]I find it confusing that council republic refers to soviet republic and not the other way around. Council republic is the more general term and for example the German Wikipedia also refers to this form of government by the name of "Räterepublik" which is directly translated to council republic. Renaming this page to council republic would also make it easier to understand that this refers to something different than the Soviet Union and highlight that this is also a form of government which has been adapted in governments outside of the sphere of influence of the Russian speaking world, like for example in present day Kurdistan.
Therefore, my proposal here would be to rename this page and treat soviet republics as a special case of council republics. Zutn (talk) 08:54, 27 December 2024 (UTC)
Changing the name of the page to “Council Republic”
[edit]The current name of "Soviet Republic" can be confused with a republic within the Soviet Union. It would make more sense for the article be renamed to Council Republic instead of it being a mention in the introduction. This would give the average reader historical clearance to the usage of the word Soviet during the interwar period for revolutionary republics for outside of the RSFSR/USSR, and avoid confusion about what page a person has landed on when searching for "Soviet Republic." I believe it'd be better for the article to be renamed to "Council Republic" for these reasons. ArmchairBordigist (talk) 15:56, 7 July 2025 (UTC)
Council republics before 1905
[edit]the article currently explicitly dates the earliest instances of council republics to 1905 in Russia, whereas the German Wikipedia names earlier examples like the Paris Commune, which is why I find this sentence in its current form at least to be misleading, if not straight wrong 2A02:2455:8698:E900:158B:8239:CE92:1CCA (talk) 09:02, 14 July 2025 (UTC)
