Antique town?

Hi, thanks for creating this page, but I don't understand what an "antique town" is? Is that a town from antiquity? A town that sells antiques? A miniature town that is sold in an antique shop? Does it still exist or was it only around during pharaonic Egypt? Any clarification would be helpful, but also thank you to whoever created this page.Jasonnewyork (talk) 06:17, 5 January 2013 (UTC)

Judging by the grammar and the word choices, I would say the current text's author is not a native English speaker. "Antique" in this case would be his word for "ancient." I will do some rewriting to make the language more understandable. — al-Shimoni (talk) 18:02, 1 April 2013 (UTC)

conflict in dates

The first sentence in the paragraph InprisonedPeoples "Major Felix in 1829 realized an expedition of the site and recognized the inscriptions of prisoners on visible columns commemorated the victories of Amenhotep III." might be in conflict with the dating in the 2nd sentence of the page's introductory pparagraph "It was discovered and described by Karl Richard Lepsius in 1844".

Was the expedition to the site organized 15 years before the the site disovery? The Major Felix is not directly referenced in Sources nor References so the dicrepancy could not be easily reserched and resolved. PeterGabris (talk) 07:39, 23 December 2025 (UTC)

Transcription of noose and snare

I've added the transcription of the Amara West inscription because what was there was confusing. This is ultimately my fault for failing to add it in the first place. Why didn't I? Because there's a mismatch. Amara uses glyph T12 𓌗 where Soleb uses V4 𓍯. T12 𓌗 does not have the sound value w or wA (= V4𓍯's) meaning I could not confirm Daniel Fleming's "Yahweh Before Israel" 2021, which sucks.

But it's so reasonable to substitute 𓌗 for 𓍯 that it shouldn't count as a mistake, if it in fact technically is one. I think 𓍯 is a noose and 𓌗 is a snare. Pretty close. Temerarius (talk) 19:00, 2 February 2026 (UTC)

-Another now-unclear thing on the page. The source for both of the transcriptions in the boxes were Fleming '21 apud Müller '17. I think I did check Müller (you may be getting the feeling I'm being especially careful concerning these greatly consequential inscriptions!) but I wanted to indicate the chain of references, which has now been "improved" and broken. I think neatness of tags isn't everything, but no big deal.

-You may notice there's a mismatch between the transcription with special characters, as Fleming, in the body, and transcription without special characters, as Jsesh, in the boxes. This is another instance where the neatness option--sameness--offers disadvantages. For one, other editors can check my transcription much more easily in Jsesh's style. For another, I think this makes it much easier for the naive reader to see what's actually going on with the transcription by inference between the two. I'd care less if the special characters were standard special characters, instead of specialist special characters. Even the intermediate reader would feel lonely.

-I think I'm going to un-capitalize the transcriptions in the (list in the) body, which undo some of the differential clarity I mentioned above. (I'm not who added them, by the way.) This will make them hew imperfectly to their source, Fleming, but his mistake. While perhaps he'd say they were capitalized for being proper nouns, there'd be little logic there. I bet he just gets itchy at not capitalizing the divine name. (Wait, I think he actually had a note in the intro relevant to this?) Anyway, around here respecting tradition/sensitive nerves is not job 1.
