I believe that Solar Cycle 5 had the lowest (not second-lowest) maximum of any numbered sunspot cycle. So is the implied reference (to another cycle with an even lower maximum) referring to the unnumbered cycles during the Maunder Minimum? NCdave (talk) 20:40, 5 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Looks like it is actually the third lowest to date by smoothed sunspot number. Solar cycle 24 peaked at a max count of 81.8, in between Cycles 5 (82.0) & 6 (81.2). Should this be updated? I am provisionally going to update it for consistency with our article for Solar Cycle 24. Currently, the two are inconsistent. D.C.F. 1987 (talk) 15:29, 9 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. That's interesting, because the "400 years" graph shows SC6 peaking quite a bit higher than SC5.

Sunspot changes

Changing topics... I think the v.1 to v.2 sunspot number change made by Jan Janssens (STCE) on 24 May 2017 needs some explanation. I propose changing the Solar Cycle articles to make it clear which version is which. Please discuss it here:
