[edit]Much of the material on this Wikipedia page is wrong and deserves to be corrected. The material describing the exponential "model" with accompanying description of parametric values is incorrect. The references below (and numerous references therein) provide a thorough description of the soil production problem, conceptualizations of factors controlling the production rate, and applications of descriptions of the production rate.
