Merged with Citizenship education ?
[edit]I have discovered that we have also an article about Citizenship education: is it really different from Social Studies ? Couldn't we merge them ? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Breizhou (talk • contribs) 10:13, 2 June 2010 (UTC)
- Citizenship education, to my understanding, is about educating immigrants to a country about the culture and basic ideals of the populace of the nation so that they are socially prepared to live life in that new country. MrMonday1 (talk) 05:28, 19 February 2011 (UTC)
- They are different and should not be merged. Social studies is taught to K-12 levels and includes subjects such as sociology, history, political science, economics, religion, geography, psychology, anthropology, and civics. Citizenship education focuses primarily on democracy, justice, rights and responsibilities, identities and diversity; it is somewhat comparable to the Government courses taught to U.S. high school students, a particular subject within Social studies. Social studies in India
[edit]Social Studies is a separate school subject India. Till 5th standard Geography, History, Civics, Economics are part of this subject. This might be probably true in other countries and not just the US. - Ravichandra (talk) 17:11, 24 November 2023 (UTC)
Social Studies at Harvard
[edit]The article mentions correctly that social studies is taught at Harvard University.
The article then states that teaching social studies requires a teaching certificate. Although no teaching certificate is required at Harvard, the article does not make that point. In the U.S., teaching certificates are, with few exceptions, for primary and secondary education. Mark A. Foster, Ph.D. (talk) 03:06, 8 September 2026 (UTC)
- I reworded the part where it talks about certification to clarify this is really just about public schools, and added a 'ordinarily' because I'm sure there are exceptions good catch. Jjazz76 (talk) 19:18, 26 September 2026 (UTC)
