No section explaining gender privilege

[edit]

A section explicitly explaining gender privilege should be included as gender privilege is a complex issue varying from culture to culture. Knsgtv (talk) 21:30, 16 September 2023 (UTC) Knsgtv (talk) 21:29, 16 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Merge proposal

[edit]
The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
To merge Privilege hazard into Social privilege#Awareness of privilege, for context, and resolve concerns regarding WP:SYNTH and neologism. Klbrain (talk) 20:16, 12 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

The new page on Privilege hazard cover precisely the topic discussed in the Awareness of privilege section. Hence, I suggest merging for overlap. Neither page is large enough to warrant the material being discussed separately, even if one were to accept that privilege hazard was a notable term. It would also bring the gender privilege section that Knsgtv asks about. Klbrain (talk) 08:36, 7 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

The term "privilege hazard" appears many times in books and publications on data science and AI, it would be a shame for researchers who encounter it to lose this page as a resource to understand it. I've added three citations in, with some additional description of how this term is used, but I could easily find a dozen more. This term is not just what is discussed in the Social privilege#Awareness of privilege section -- it is not only about being unwilling to acknowledge one's privilege, "privilege hazard" is being unaware of it, and in ways that cause harmful problems in the data systems one develops. Listenintently (talk) 22:28, 16 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

I did (only) a preliminary NPP review on the other article. I placed a neologism notability tag and said the following:

"The term is not in the title of any of the references. IMO this is a sort of neologism that is not covered in RS's as such and then a gathering of material covered elsewhere which is not identified as such."

For that reason and for the coverage / duplication reasons given in the merge nomination, I'd recommend doing that merge. Sincerely, North8000 (talk) 16:05, 17 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

@North8000 I agree with your proposal; the Privilege hazard article is likely ineligible for a standalone page; it engages in WP:SYNTH with several other privilege-related sources that don't provide significant coverage of the subject. Until additional sigcov is unearthed, this topic should be merged into this page. Dclemens1971 (talk) 18:00, 12 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

I added the AI generated template here regarding the text merged in (this diff); it displays many indications of LLM use that are pretty strong. Thus it needs review for accuracy, sourcing issues, etc. -- which should have been done at the time but was not. Gnomingstuff (talk) 04:08, 13 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
