Smock and tower mills
[edit]What's the difference between a Smock Mill and a Tower mill? It's not really clear from either article.
- Sorry, my English is too bad. Wind mills must have a good heigth to catch the wind. Tower mills, often built on hills, are operated by the miller from the ground. Smock mills are built in flat areas (like Netherlands, close to ths sea or polders) and so are built higher. So to operate the wings, there is a kind of circular gallery or balcony around the tower. And this makes the difference between a tower mill and a smock mill. I hope you understood me. --Morburre (talk) 06:52, 1 June 2015 (UTC)
- In English use, that isn't the difference - a tower mill has a fixed tower built of brick or stone, a smock mill has a fixed tower built )mainly) of wood. Either type may have a balcony. Ghughesarch (talk) 18:00, 1 June 2015 (UTC)
