Where is the Horse Island in this group? Is this just a mix-up with the Summer Isles?--JBellis 05:58, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
- I think it is a reference to Eilean nan Each, off the NW corner of Muck at NM3981. I think each is Gaelic for horse. See for example . I would suggest changing the link to Eilean nan Each, seeing as that's what the OS map says, and I think it is the more common name today. --Vclaw 20:24, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
Gaelic name, Na h-Eileanan Tarsainn
[edit]According to Iain Mac an Tailleir the gaelic name should be Na h-Eileanan Tarsainn while Na h-Eileanan Beaga refer to the other scot Small Isles near Jura. See and p. 106. English name
[edit]Am I the only one who is confused by the assertion, based on Haswell-Smith that the islands get their name from the name of the parish they are in, which is the 'Small Isles'? That doesn't really make much sense - where then does the parish get its name? Seems to me a bit like saying that Mull gets its name from being coincident with the island of that name. cheers Geopersona (talk) 20:13, 9 January 2019 (UTC)
