Mingeborough, NY? (The Secret Integration)

I've been wondering whether there's sufficient evidence to put Mingeborough in NY. It's pretty clear that it's in the Berkshires, and the corresponding article suggests that the region is in western MA and CT but can "occasionally" include southwest VT and the Taconic region of NY.

As far as the story itself is concerned, there's "all the purple lights and green fluorescence in Massachusetts would not prevail" apropos of Dr Slothrop treating Tim's wart, and later on "all the moneyed of Berkshire County" coming to Ellsworth Baffy's estate; I think these locate the doctor's office and the estate, respectively, in MA, but technically, I suppose, the town itself could be in another state.

Gravity's Rainbow puts Mingeborough in MA (it's on page 26 of most editions), but I'm not sure it can legitimately be read across (all Pynchon's works seem to share a fictional universe, but there are a couple of instances of contradiction between them).

I really should get out more...
