What part of "anonymous" Don't you understand?

[edit]

Do not post the real names of members of Sleep Token unless they actually officially publish them. Respect the bands' wishes. Chromesthesia304 (talk) 06:03, 13 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Respecting their wishes isn't a reason not to post their names if we know them. I agree with not posting the names based on some music blogs detective work without any actual verifiable proof. --Onorem (talk) 22:25, 21 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
Well, the guy’s real name can be found by looking on the ASCAP/BMI database. That seems pretty official and published. 2601:41:4300:BBF:7421:1F1D:B4CC:7977 (talk) 19:26, 22 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

As I said above, that's the names of two music writers. It is not listing the members of the band. Yes, they probably are these people, but Wikipedia should not be jumping to that conclusion. --Escape Orbit (Talk) 11:23, 1 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Wow, my edit wasn't saved. Fuck Wikipedia. Anyway. Abbreviated,

I do not respect artists wanting to remain anonymous. If you release music for the public, then you surrender your right to anonymity. If you don't want attention, leave the recording on your hard drive. Otherwise it feels like you're begging for even more attention, trying to make your audience engage in some ARG. 172.59.197.86 (talk) 21:36, 4 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Your thoughts on how a band might publicise themselves are not relevant. If there are no reliable sources that identify the band members then Wikipedia doesn't list them.--Escape Orbit (Talk) 07:55, 5 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hey, so there is this thing called basic human rights. I thought you might have wanted to dwell into the topics of which the band members have the right to remain anonymous, and saying you have no respect for the artists just makes others thing you have a humongous ego; however, if you choose to prevaricate on that matter, just know your opinion is irrelevant and you should respect their wishes even if you do not like it. <3 2604:2D80:1701:B00:239D:1030:90C5:5926 (talk) 06:48, 10 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

not cool, User:Psywave

Yeah I agree. @Psywave: why do you keep adding Vessel's real name (if that is his real name) to the article? This band wants to remain anonymous and we should respect that on Wikipedia. See: Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons - "Material about living persons added to any Wikipedia page must be written with the greatest care and attention to verifiability." Adding his real is disregarding his wishing to remain at least somewhat anonymous. And it's also careless because how do we know for sure this is his real name? It could be a rumor or a fake name he came up with to hide his real identity. This band is supposed to be anonymous and the members want it that way. We should respect their privacy. It doesn't matter if their names are out there or not. The members have yet to take off the masks and confirm their identites themselves. Until then, we should not be adding their real names. Practice taking extra special care and be respectful of people's privacy when dealing with personal information. Bowling is life (talk) 21:57, 11 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
Wikipedia is in the business of stating facts. We need a better source, admittedly, but undertaking a venture leading to commercial success such as the band have, any desire to remaining anonymous is either driven by marketing appeal and/or is naïve. Believe they may even have written to this effect. There are many things that public figures do not wish to have on Wikipedia, but that is the price one pays for entering and remaining in the limelight. Psywave (talk) 15:41, 17 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

That is not their official website. I know their identities are out their, but that doesn't matter. Have the band members taken off their masks and confirmed their identity yet? As far as I know, they haven't yet. It seems like they'd prefer to keep their identity private and we should respect that on Wikipedia. Bowling is life (talk) 22:59, 30 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

This part should probably be removed

[edit]

The "In January 2024, the identities and addresses of the band members were reportedly leaked. In response, the band deleted all posts from all social media accounts and since has gone silent" is not completely true. Their identities have been known for a long time, as well as the fact there is no proof of the band's social media going silent for that purpose as they have since been posting again in preparation of their upcoming tour. I think this bit of information should be removed, especially since the source article is essentially a gossip and speculation piece. HunterGatherer97 (talk) 23:30, 26 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

The dates provided for the release of their cover of "Hey Ya!" are misleading. The release date referenced on the Prelude Press article is also referencing the date which Hey Ya! was added back to Spotify, not the original publishing date. Based on the bandcamp release dates for Two , Hey Ya was released 5 months before the second EP as well. https://sleeptoken.bandcamp.com/community Date and source the release properly and remove citation of the Prelude Press article for clarity Nyxy.bot (talk) 15:42, 29 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

More than 1 interview has been given by the band

[edit]

Under artistry, identity and musical style it states that the band's only interview has been with a metal publication. This is false as 2 has given an interview with a Youtube channel called Drumeo. Genre

[edit]

Can we get agreement of a suitable summary of the band's genres? Listing every possible genre in the lead sentence is not the purpose of the lead, and certainly doesn't help the reader get an immediate idea of what kind of music they generally play. Same goes for the infobox. There is plenty of opportunity for the rest of the article to expand the breadth of what they play, with sources of course.

Unless there is a clear preference in the sources for a particular sub-genre, I'd suggest that the generic "metal" is the best summary. But happy to hear other suggestions. Escape Orbit (Talk) 11:55, 18 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Agreed TheWarOfArt (talk) 14:57, 18 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
I've sourced two genres in the info box, and added an editor note. No source cited, no go. --Escape Orbit (Talk) 15:19, 5 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
Just one editor made a change to the genres today and this hasn't been a completely consistent issue. It certainly doesn't warrant removing the genres. Especially since all the genres you removed are sourced in the body of the article. Sources do not go in the infobox. Bowling is life (talk) 16:27, 5 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
Well, please put the editor note back in. Mucking about with the genres on this article, in the lead and info box, has been a continual issue. Escape Orbit (Talk) 17:07, 5 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
Sorry I forgot to specify. You are right the lead genre has been contentious. But the infobox genres haven't been as big of an issue. I'll add a note now. Bowling is life (talk) 17:20, 5 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

Espera

[edit]

If we're going to list Espera in the members section, should we publicize their names? Espera have chosen to make their identities public via their social media, and have for a while, so it's something to consider on whether or not we should handle them like the rest of the band or not. 2600:100E:B033:E325:BD5B:3FEB:FE1E:7779 (talk) 10:49, 18 February 2025 (UTC)Reply

Vessel's identity

[edit]

I'm drafting an article for Vessel himself and would like to know whether I should use his real identity, please get back to me ASAP :) AlexEditsStuff (talk) 04:07, 20 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

You say what reliable sources say. If they use his real name, in reference to "Vessel" then you may too. What you cannot do is combine sources in order to cite them to demonstrate that his name can be worked out from them. (As some earlier attempted to do on this article.)
You should also consider what he is most commonly called. Is he most notable as "Vessel", who has a real name? Or is he most notable under his real name, who sometimes performs as "Vessel"? This would determine what you name the article. --Escape Orbit (Talk) 12:43, 20 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
Just to jump in here, it's extremely unlikely that an article about Vessel will meet WP:N guidelines. He's not notable outside of Sleep Token and there's no real information out there about him that's reliable. I'd recommend not wasting your time on it. If there's real info available, it can be included in the Sleep Token article itself. Andre666 (talk) 14:34, 20 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

Proposal: Add citation for "Caramel" lyrical analysis

[edit]

Hi all,

I noticed my earlier edit citing Neon Music for Sleep Token’s single “Caramel” was reverted. Just to clarify — the source I included (https://neonmusic.co.uk/sleep-token-caramel-lyrics-meaning) does *not* reveal any real identities of the band members.

The article offers an editorial breakdown of the song’s lyrical themes, including anonymity, viral fame, and parasocial attention — topics that are central to “Caramel” but currently not covered in this section of the page.

I believe this is a valid, non-promotional source that adds encyclopedic value and complies with WP:RS and WP:NPOV. I’m happy to rephrase or trim it for clarity if needed, but wanted to confirm that the source itself aligns with Wikipedia guidelines.

Let me know your thoughts! Britznbeatz (talk) 01:02, 6 April 2025 (UTC)Reply

It's clear from your editing history that you have a WP:Conflict of interest with regard to Neon Music, formerly the WordPress blog Britznbeatz. This suggestion of yours could be construed as you wishing to increase the visibility of Neon Music more than to improve the encyclopedia. The folks at Neon Music have published non-neutral advert promos such as this, so their journalistic neutrality is in question. The writer Alex Harris's expertise in music is not established. Wikipedia isn't censored and does provide spoilers. BusterD (talk) 23:31, 8 April 2025 (UTC)Reply

Here's from their own website. If they're already deemed notable, then their own website is useful for direct detailing. BusterD (talk) 23:46, 8 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
I will not edit war but I will create an RFC to settle this. This is not a local issue. Wikipedia doesn't play any band's secret games. The names are available directly from their own site. Their own site is reliable for information about the band. BusterD (talk) 23:49, 8 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
I'm just a random user who stumbled upon this thread, and the sheer edit history the page has been through; but I wanted to add something to what you said.
While the URL does come across as the band's "official" website, it is in fact not an official website site; it is a fan-ran site that is made by and for fans, and they even say that they are not officially affiliated with the band. It's in the website's "legal disclaimer and terms of use." HayDumGee (talk) 00:40, 9 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
You are correct. I am able to find individual sources which are not fan sites. I'm accumulating plenty for a single cited edit. Amazing what you can find using WP:The Wikipedia Library! But given their names are each available on the top line of a gsearch, it's not like this is secret info. These public figures conjure an illusion of anonymity just so they may be more highly valued later in their career. Given sufficient RS, no policy or guideline would stop any wikipedian from creating individual articles about the band members mentioning this topic. BusterD (talk) 01:07, 9 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
Google aggregates data trends, as the names on Google are often associated with the band by fans, the algorithms used associate them with the band name and therefore display them under a search for the band.
From my research there is no official source (i.e. the band themselves or individuals who work or have worked for them) which reliably proves the members are the alleged names commonly associated with them. As such any inclusion of those names would be as a "the members are speculated to be these people" inclusion. At which point, WP:SPECULATION applies perhaps...
Side note, the official website is sleep-token.com
JC aka JtheKid15 (Communications) 14:57, 9 April 2025 (UTC)Reply

Their (alleged) real names are quite tediously available all over the internet, but not yet via WP:RS. If mainstream journalists gave these names in published articles, that would be a different matter. The Anome (talk) 07:45, 29 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

Why are III and IV not in the infobox?

[edit]

In the members section of the infobox, only Vessel and II are named as members of the band, but down in the Members subsection of the *page*, III and IV are mentioned - why the discrepancy? Vəssel [talk to mə] 10:50, 4 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

My assumption would be because the infobox contains only the permanent members of the band (?) I'm not aware of the good practice in this regard to infoboxes and band members so perhaps someone more knowledgable can advise further.
III, IV and the Espera are all touring members so may not meet this criteria. JC aka JtheKid15 (Communications) 08:00, 1 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
thought Id chime in with the knowledge on this that I have.. III, IV and Espera considered touring musicians rather than the legally core members, which are Vessel & II. Wanderingmusic1295 (talk) 07:00, 8 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

Identities again

[edit]

@TattooedLeprechaun: We should not be including their actual names unless the band members themselves confirm their identities and we have reliable secondary sources to back it up. The source added today is not a reliable source. The source actually say "fan news, by fans". This band is widely known for being anonymous by sources and Wikipedia articles should always reflect what sources say. Plus, the members would have revealed their identities if they wanted to be known. Wikipedia should be respecting the privacy of it's subjects. How do we know for sure their supposed names are correct? We need to take extra care in making sure information is correct when it comes to living people. See: Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons. Bowling is life (talk) 23:08, 3 September 2025 (UTC)Reply

The band members absolutely don't need to confirm, but yes...I agree reliable sources are needed. --Onorem (talk) 23:13, 3 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
Just to re-iterate. The band's marketing stunt of being anonymous is not the issue and Wikipedia is under no obligation to play along. But the lack of reliable sources that identify them is the issue. Wikipedia is obliged to only publish that what has already been published by reliable sources. --Escape Orbit (Talk) 11:49, 4 September 2025 (UTC)Reply

Grammy nominations

Should "Changes (Black Sabbath song "Yungblud Edition")" be included as nomination for the band given that not all the members participated in its production? TheWarOfArt (talk) 18:03, 19 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

Awards & Nominations Questions

[edit]

Please help me with... a few questions I have for the Sleep Token article. One is copying the question from the talk page under "Grammy nominations" by TheWarOfArt since no one answered: Should "Changes (Black Sabbath song "Yungblud Edition")" be included as nomination for the band given that not all the members participated in its production?

Second question: Related to the above, II has received a few awards of their own in drumming for Sleep Token. Should they be included in the Awards and nominations section?

Third question: Does the NYT award really count? As of right now, I can't see the article b/c of the paywall, but I'm not sure if they actually "won" anything, except for the author's mention. I don't think the list of best songs was in any particular order. Should it stay in this section, or be mentioned somewhere else? If I can find an archived link to the article, I'll edit it.

Edit: The NYT article is behind a paywall, even the "gift" article links, and the only archived link I can find is on archive.ph, which Wikipedia flags. Every link on the Wayback Machine I've looked at so far comes up as blank or has an error message that the user has been blocked from the NYT website due to suspicions of being a bot. Is there another way to cite this? Xx rapunzel xx (talk) 00:12, 1 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Thanks in advance. Xx rapunzel xx (talk) 19:29, 28 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

"Not really", "probably not", and "eh.... sure?", in that order. It looks like the paywall issue has been resolved by having a second source to corroborate the information. Based on what appears to be a lack of interest in talk page discussions (or even this page) I would say that if you think the NYT "award" does not belong, and no one else comments, be BOLD and remove it yourself. Primefac (talk) 12:27, 1 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
I just checked the NYT citation myself. The information in the article is correct, "Caramel" was categorized as the best song of 2025. However, it is not a list of awards, rather, a year-end list. —JavaJourney (talk | contribs) 21:54, 1 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Sources containing identities

[edit]

Sleep Token are/is a band that wants to stay anonymous. I've read the past talk threads but no one has suggested a solution.

Someone posted the ASCAP source in the Sundowning album article. It is a credible source that lists the real names of either one or both main members of the band. Would it be appropriate to write some sort of footnote that basically says "this source contains real names, so don't read if you do not want to be spoiled"? Or should another source be used altogether?

Furthermore, does Wikipedia have a responsibility to bands (and fans) to respect their wishes if their real names don't want to be publicized?

Thanks. Xx rapunzel xx (talk) 01:39, 17 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Just four points in reply. I think these points have been made before on this page.
  • ASCAP records songwriters, not band members. They are likely the same, but we cannot say they are.
  • The main responsibility Wikipedia has is to reflect what reliable sources say. If there are no reliable sources that name the band members, then Wikipedia cannot.
  • Wikipedia has no policy or guideline about otherwise playing along with marketing gimmicks.
  • Wikipedia is not censored about anything, it does not contain spoiler warnings.
--Escape Orbit (Talk) 07:28, 17 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
  • Xx rapunzel xx Per WP:NOTCENSORED; "Some organizations' rules or traditions call for secrecy with regard to certain information about them. Such restrictions do not apply to Wikipedia, because Wikipedia is not a member of those organizations; thus, Wikipedia will not remove such information from articles if it is otherwise encyclopedic." This applies to all such situations(The Mousetrap, where viewers are asked to not reveal the ending, and P.E.O.
