Pronunciation

If you sound out Skagit, it's two syllables. Ska and git. /ˈskæ.dʒɪt/. Saying it like /ˈskædʒ.ɪt/ is not how it's pronounced. There is no reason for any confusion between /ˈskædʒɪt/ and /ˈskæ:dʒɪt/ as æ: and æ are allophones in this word. Nor do I think that SKA-jit implies that the vowel is somehow longer.
