A little bit misleading
[edit]1) The passage "the Siruv has been described as a form of Cherem", needs citation.
2) I believe the Shulchan Aruch uses the langauge nedoi. It is not the same thing as cherem. And therefore, the blanket tatement calling it cherem is misleading and simply incorrect.
3) It would also be good to include an example of a siruv to make more clear what it is about
Further to that, in practice local Rabbis in any given community decide what the conduct will be as regards the person who received the siruv.
It would be good to have some discussion about this. But in any case, it does need to be fixed and brought into line with Halacha and actual practice. DrKN1 (talk) 13:55, 26 May 2025 (UTC)
Incomplete
[edit]The article should also include some discussion of what is expected of others regarding someone who has received a shtar siruv, and what is required to be released from the siruv. For example, normally one says "I will come" is sufficient if he is believable. And, the case where the person insulated the Beis Din has further consequences.
This could be a valuable article in particular for someone in such a situation. So, lets make it more accurate and more useful. DrKN1 (talk) 16:56, 7 December 2025 (UTC)
