Christian socialism

Actually, after divorcing from Marxism and accepting Christianity, I would doubt if she could be called 'socialist'. I know the term 'Christian Socialism' is very broad, but her views, especially the ones expressing On The Abolition of Political Parties (2013), are more oriented towards a form of 'enlightened individualism' rather pure naked socialism. I would not even describe her as individualist either; Weil supports the idea of being rooted into a collectivity. But socialism isn't a bit too far?

Article Organization

Good morning! I've been trying to add more information on Weil but want to hear from others about article organization. Firstly I added info on her philosophies from the Need for Roots but I'm not sure if I should have instead added that under the philosophy section instead of under the book's section (especially because the book has it's own page).

I'm also confused about the organization the break's her life into early life/intellectual life/political life/death because her regular life was so heavily intertwined with her political and intellectual efforts. Would it not make more since to just have a biography that doesn't differentiate between her life/intellectual life/political life because they really can't be separated?

Good morning to you too. Thanks for the great edits to the article, esp. those from the Zaretsky source. He seems to get her far better than most, IMO. The NfR info could indeed have been added to the dedicated article, and as a general rule its often best to expand a smaller more focussed article than risk making the primary one too big for many to read. But equally, it could also be left as if for now.

The idea that you can't separate areas of someone's life is only valid in limited non literal senses. Granted, it's especially true for someone like Weil who embodied her ideals & ideas to a greater extent than most. But even so, sources I've read on Weil invariably differentiate to some degree. I see the various section headings as helpful to our readers, and would be strongly opposed to an undifferentiated biography. On the other hand, no objection to the minor structural changes you've made so far. As for suggestions, maybe the most pressing omission in our Weil content is a deeper coverage of uprootedness, which she saw as a central problem for the worlds people. But its' a challenging topic to cover in a helpful way. So really I'd say just explore whatever topics you feel most drawn to. FeydHuxtable (talk) 11:58, 3 August 2024 (UTC)

Gravity and Grace

Why does Gravity and Grace redirect to Weil's author page? Many other books are a posthumous collection of thoughts edited by someone else and have their own wiki page, like Pascal's Pensées and Wittgenstein's Philosophical Investigations. I want to add a page about the Gravity and Grace but would like first to understand what's the story on the current configuration.

I searched on Wikipedia:Redirects_for_discussion but couldn't find any material specifically related to Gravity and Grace.

Hey, it's a redirect as editor Grnrchst created it as such, almost certainly as a navigational aid for the benefit of readers. With 99.999% confidence, there was zero intention to discourage article creation. You could ask Grnrchst if you wanted to be sure, but the general advise would be just to go ahead and create the article, per WP:Bebold.

As you asked for a story, I'll add that AFAIK, no one except myself has created an article on Simone Weils books & essays. (I created articles for Poem of Force back in 2009, and Need for Roots back in 2011.) I see Gravity & Grace as a much more challenging work to appropiatly summariese for the reader. It wasnt until last year I was gifted with my first taste of spiritual dryness, unfortuneatly I took the easy way out after 4 days. Had I had the strenght to endure to the end, I might have felt up to creating the article. As things stand, am excited to see what an editor like yourself, whose first edit was to add info concerning the fall to our Humpty Dumpty article, and who has an interest in morena tatuadas is going to make of the book! Besides reading the book, I'm also taking a 2-month course on the book given by the translator to Brazilian Portuguese, which is also a wealth of material!
