Hello, I would like to add to Simon Chang's Bio. My COI is that I am his assistant.

I would like to edit the "Early Life" section to say the following:

Born in Canton, China but growing up in Vancouver, Chang was the great -grandson of pioneer merchant Chang Toy. After graduating from Britannia Secondary, he attended Emily Carr on a full scholarship from the Hudson’s Bay company where he majored in photography and graphic design. [1]

Of Chinese descent, Simon was raised in Vancouver British Columbia. After graduating from Britannia Secondary he moved to Montreal. Chang attended Emily Carr University of Art and Design on a full scholarship awarded by The Hudson’s Bay Company.[5]

I would like to add the following info to the "Later years" section:

Home Hardware chose Chang to become their Style  and Colour  expert for its Beauti-Tone  Paint division, resulting in his Oh Canada  Colour Card, reflecting  different  regions  of the country through colour  and light scheme. [2}

Chang believes in giving back and in 1986 he founded the Simon Chang and Phyllis Levine Foundation which donates money for research in areas of breast cancer, pediatric disorders, heart disease and Aids. It also supports education and social organizations that help the less fortunate Canadians- offering everything from sports programs for children to funding for women’s shelters. [3]

Hi Spintendo, the book you are referring to is the 2018 edition. The book I have on hand in the 2017 edition. Simon's bio is written on page 111. And I used the editor's exact wording... Please look at the book version 2017 with ISBN 9780772671776. Can the denial be revised?

"And I used the editor's exact wording..." The problem is that you are using the author's exact wording and not placing the information in your own words, which should be the case. The information on the subject's philanthropy needs to be documented by more sources than a bio put together by the British Columbia Ministry of Tourism, which would be more of an expert on promoting British Columbia, rather than on individual people. Hi  Spintendo , The other editor told me I had to use the exact wording and not my own. I'm so confused. To confirm, you are saying that the British Columbia Ministry of Tourism reference is not a reliable source and I should find another? I should also not use the exact wording that's written in the text? The previous info was written on my "Talk" page. It is a book given to high schools in Vancouver.

What the other editor meant was that you should summarize the facts from the source in your own words, not in the words of the source's author - the latter approach violates copyright. I share Spintendo's doubts on whether the BC Ministry of Tourism is a reliable source for biographical information. Huon (talk) 17:13, 14 June 2019 (UTC)
