would either of the mute admins explain why simon cowell and paul simon are under the section "historical", or why they are mentioned at all?

In the German Wikipedia there is written:

Herkunft und Bedeutung des Namens

• hebräisch Schimon: von Gott erhört

after that, Simon means "God answered (the prayer)"

But on this page is mentioned another meaning - so either the German or the Ehglish page must be wrong.

Apostrophe

Actually neither carry this meaning explicitly. Simon doesn't have a literal meaning in hebrew (i am a native speaker). It stems from the verb "to hear", and in the original context means "God has heard", so the definition given in this value is incorrect.
