I think this comment is actually quite unfair on the magazine (disclosure: I have nothing to do with the magazine or its publishers. I'm just an occasional reader of it.)

In the case of an individual issue being sold, should an author of an article seek compensation, the payout would be relatively small and easy to calculate. Should SC have issued several thousand DVDs containing the entire Electronics Australia run, that compensation claim could be quite significant.
