Wikipedia:SPS : Spiro ethnicity

[edit]

My edit was reverted, even though in the short youtube video Spiro refers to herself as Jewish. The argument for the revertion was that it is a promotional video - i don't understand what difference does this fact make for this - if she sais she's Jewish, the purpose of the video is irrelevant. I Think it's a valid soure. לידך בלעדייך (talk) 22:21, 7 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Your edit wasn't reverted. I added a citation needed template and removed the YouTube video, which does not mention her family. I just re-added the YouTube video to support that she is Jewish based on the conversation on your talk page (not because I think it's a valid source). I deleted that her family is Jewish. Okay, that's fine with me. As for the source - as C.Fred mentioned on my talk page, i think too that this video falls within the realm of self-published sources. Suppose that she would mention in this video her exact birth date - wouldn't we take this as a valid source, only because the video is promotional? I think that there's no problem in taking these kinds of neutral facts even from promotional sources. לידך בלעדייך (talk) 10:37, 9 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Here's a Tik Tok link with her birthday. I don't use sources like this but I will not revert your edit if you do: https://www.tiktok.com/@siennaspiro/video/7555224831633984770. JSFarman (talk) 21:53, 9 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for the source! I too don't use sources like this - in fact, i don't have a tiktok account (nor social media accounts at all) - but it's valid, at least until we have a better source. Thanks again. לידך בלעדייך (talk) 01:30, 10 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
A great policy. I have to avoid TikTok. Total time suck. I think I originally downloaded it because there was something I wanted to see and I couldn't do it without an account. I was just going to leave a message about the date, but of course you can't see it if you can't access it. (I changed it from 9/25 to 9/28, which is the date on the Tik Tok. I tried to find another source but failed.) Thanks for the thanks. JSFarman (talk) 01:39, 10 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Her voice

[edit]

The classification of her voice in the lead was changed at least 3 times from contraalto to mezzo-soprano and back to contraalto. Could it be that she's something in-between? לידך בלעדייך (talk) 16:06, 26 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Nope, I don't think so.
People like to use the term "contralto" or "alto" to refer to any woman's voice that's deep or rich, regardless of their actual range, but the vocal range "contralto" is actually pretty rare. Confusingly, "alto" in contemporary/choral music can describe a musical part that mezzo-sopranos sing, rather than their actual voice type/range, so an "alto" in that context often doesn't have an alto voice.
The term "contralto" isn't quite as confused however.
Cher or Annie Lennox are good examples of contralto voice types. Compare their singing to Sienna Spiro's and it's clear that despite her deep, rich timbre, Sienna Spiro is not a contralto. ~2026-23849-35 (talk) 14:16, 17 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
So what is she? What is her range? לידך בלעדייך (talk) 14:24, 17 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
I'm not familiar with her entire discography, but from what I've listened to, her vocal range is pretty comparable to Adele's (who is also commonly confused for a contralto due to having a deep timbre). So I'd say mezzo-soprano probably. ~2026-23840-18 (talk) 14:59, 17 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

"Material Lover" in Discography

[edit]

A new peak (New Zealand) has just been added to the discography. If the song charted, doesn't it mean that it is a single? Is the separation in tables needed? קריצ'ר (talk) 08:00, 8 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
