Newspaper articles for R E Shute death

[edit]

I am placing these links here as a just in case someone would like to expand the section dealing with R E Shute and the instigation of the Shute shield trophy. They may or may not be useful.

Is this an amateur or semi-professional competition ?

[edit]

Finance nature of competition needs to be mentioned. Purely amateur or do any players get paid ? Did anything change when Rugby allowed professionalism ? Rcbutcher (talk) 00:09, 30 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Sydney University Football Club

[edit]

In which year did the club begin? The club claims 1863. However, according to the club wiki page it is questionable. A recent update to the Shute Shield page mentioned a game with Newington College in 1863. But the college had only begun in July of that year with just 16 students. According to this newsletter put out by the College, the rugby program didn't start until 1869.  Preceding unsigned comment added by Spunkwinkle (talkcontribs) 04:52, 27 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Petersham 1922 is Newtown 1900-1921

[edit]

I'm not sure how to edit this information into the page i.e. the Petersham club listed as playing 1922 is the 1900 founded Newtown District RUFC playing in their royal blue jerseys under the re-branded name of the Petersham District RUFC (in what became its final season as the NSWRU redistributed its area to other district clubs).[1][2] Federatedwoman (talk) 10:43, 13 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
