Sherif, Sharif, and Ashraf

[edit]

After editing this disambiguation page for basic style, I am left with a remaining observation: the Sherif, Sharif, Ashraf and Ashraf (name) articles all seem to be talking about the same thing; and therefore should be merged or reorganized. However I am outside my field here and would like to prompt someone with more working knowledge of the terms to weight in on the issue. --Charles Gaudette (talk) 20:20, 24 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

I know I'm 13 years late here, but now it's finally  Done. The concept of descent from the Prophet's family is explained by Sharif, Ashraf now redirects there, Ashraf (name) now explains it has nothing to with Ashraf, and Sherif is only about the proper name Sharif/Sherif.
What still needs to be done though is to add all people covered by Wikipedia with the given name or surname "Sharif" to this article, and to create Sharifa, where people named "Sharifa" and "Sherifa" should be listed. It may also be a good idea to move this article to Sharif (name), once the people named Sharif are also listed here.  Apaugasma (talk ) 05:06, 28 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Why is it taken for granted there is no connection between the English Sherif and the Arabic Sharif? 75.142.43.255 (talk) 05:30, 13 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
