Recent Events

I set off a new "Recent Events" section in the article to divide out new material from the history section. The recent events, like any other material in wikipedia articles, should be verifiable information, with sources such as newspaper articles. Most of the material written could possibly be true, but it needs verifying/sources, or it is subject to being deleted. doncram (talk) 03:58, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

merger of Sheldon Jackson Museum

I actually did this two years ago, and it was split back off with no comment as to why that was needed or desirable. Seems like a no-brainer to me. The museum and the college are obviously closely related topics, the college article is not overly long, and since the college is now defunct that article isn't going to expand in the future to the point where we would need to split this back off. Post-merge

Since the AFD ran its course without containing evidence of WP:BEFORE, I looked. In doing so, I came across multiple sources which specifically mentioned the residents of Sitka coming together to put a significant amount of work (like into the tens of thousands of volunteer hours, IIRC) restoring the SJC buildings, which had mostly fallen into disrepair, to be used again by the Sitka Fine Arts Camp. That's precisely something that's appropriate to mention in a "merged" article, unless the objective wasn't really a merger but rather a backdoor deletion. Pigsonthewing was the one who nominated the SFAC article for deletion recently, and also the one who nominated the article for deletion 12 years ago. That tells me he has an interest in the topic. I also see his last 500 edits go back only 10 days, whereas my last 500 edits go back over eight months. That tells me he has a lot more time for this than I do. So what's the verdict? Are you going to do the appropriate post-merge work or do you expect someone else to do it? The article as currently constructed gives far too much weight to the closure of SJC. That's typical of self-serving Wikipedians who think that we need only build the history of an entity with sources that come around one's feed today.
