1989 description by Jim Muir
[edit]“The village of Shebaa, in the Aqrub foothills of Mount Hermon, is at the heart of the affair. It lies both within the ‘security zone’ and in the Norbatt area. It is a Sunni village (in an area where Shi’ites and Druze predominate) and its tough, independent-minded people have for centuries made much of their living out of smuggling” Jim Muir, Middle East International #346 17 March 1989. I was struck by the “for centuries”. Padres Hana (talk) 11:36, 12 January 2022 (UTC)
Dead link and questionable numbers
[edit]The sentence "As of 2025, the town housed 1.5 million Syrian refugees." in the history section has a dead link and can't be verified. This also seems to be the total numbers of Syrian refugees in Lebanon, not the amount in this specific town. This is the dead link that was used as a source: https://www.dailystar.com.lb/News/Lebanon-News/2015/Feb-27/288953-shebaa-the-town-caught-in-the-middle.ashx
On this page of the UN Refugee Agency, when scrolling down to the pie chart, it is stated that the total number is 1.2 million: https://www.unhcr.org/where-we-work/countries/lebanon 2A02:8108:8386:2800:8574:EE0:48CE:4BB8 (talk) 09:22, 24 July 2025 (UTC)
