Hello- I am the person this page has been made for. Firstly thankyou for creating and adding my page. I tried to correct a few things but then was told because of conflict of Interest I cannot edit my own page. Serkan Nihat is a British film director and film editor.

He was Born in Edmonton, North London and is of Turkish Cypriot descent.

Serkan’s introduction to cinema was from the Yesilcam silver-age of Turkish cinema.

With over two decades of experience in the British film and television industry, he has worked across a wide range of productions and studios, transitioning from post-production roles into directing.

Career

Serkan began his career in the film and television industry as a production runner, entering the industry without formal contacts. Through a progression of roles he moved into post-production, eventually becoming an Avid Manager at Molinare, one of the UK’s major post-production facilities.

He later worked as an assistant editor on major British television dramas, including series such as Spooks, Hustle, Broadchurch,Taboo, Call the Midwife and Doctor Who. During this period he was also involved in the implementation the first fully tapeless workflows on the British adaptation of Law & Order, during a period of technological transition in television production.

As an editor, he has specialised in editing trailers and TV spots and feature length documentaries.

Serkan transitioned into directing, developing a reputation for visually driven commercial and branded content. His extensive technical background in editing and post-production has heavily influenced his directing style, giving his work a strong visual precision and dynamic cinematic language.

Drawing on both his technical background and directing experience, Nihat moved into narrative filmmaking, where his work combines strong cinematic craft with character-driven storytelling. His debut feature film Exodus received critical acclaim and multiple festival awards

Commercial and Branded Content

He has directed commercials for brands like Barclays, Unilever, and John Lewis. In 2018, he won a Silver Dolphin at the Cannes Corporate Media & TV Awards for a Barclays campaign. and in 2019 was a finalist in the Creative pool industry awards. In 2019 he was awarded an Evcom Award for a Vogue campaign and has since won another three EVCOM awards.

Nihat’s short films have screened at international festivals. His short film Footprints on the Moon premiered at the East End Film Festival and later toured globally as part of the Lift-Off Festival, where it received the Audience Favourite Award.

His short film Apex, starring Charlotte Riley and Tom Weston-Jones, won awards at the Cannes Short Film Competition, including Best Film and Audience Award.

Feature Film: Exodus (2025)

Nihat's debut feature, Exodus, premiered in the European Film Market at the 2024 Berlin International Film Festival. It then opened the London Independent Film Festival (LIFF) on 19 April 2024 and won Best Drama Feature.

Exodus also received Best Drama Feature at the Touchstone Independent Film Festival and the Special Jury Prize at the Montreal Independent Film Festival.
