Has this article been vandalised?
[edit]There are some oddities in this article. The one that stands out to me most is that "pornosphericity" stuff, which hasn't been mentioned in any of the cited sources I was able to find, nor in the Polish Wikipedia article, and based on a cursory search this term seems to only exist in this particular English Wikipedia article across the entire open web. I don't know anything about the works of Stanisław Łem, however, so I'm in no position to identify the full extent of the vandalism to correct it. JSTLF (talk) 03:43, 2 May 2025 (UTC)
- Yes, "pornosphericity" is the correct word and of course it is supplied with the reference from the book I own. Here is a Polish ref online and the russian word to search is порносферичность. No wonder that you cannot find the English term: there is no obsession with Lem in english scifi fandom. --Altenmann >talk 05:15, 2 May 2025 (UTC)

This textbook] on psycholinguistics an exercise is suggested to the student to analyze the corresponding excerpt from Lem from the POV of this discipline.
In fact, google books say this example is very popular in russian linguistic and logic books.
Here the case of sepulkas is used as an ironic comparison with inept Russian finance legislation with its circular references.
Here the word is used to replace similar meaningless English words (I dont know whioch, didnt read the original): "For how long we will argue ad nauseam about the advantages of sepulkas over butyavkas until we eventually find out that both are one and the same". BTW "butyavka" (Бутявка) is also well known to Russian linguists.
Lemoniada 2021 included a Lem-quiz with the question: What kind of matter sepulkas are made of? - (a) gas (b) liquid (c) solid (d) unknown. If you think the quiz was as trivial trivial as this, well, not: " How many legs does "the Invincible" have on the book cover of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology publishing house?

Sepulka types
