[edit]This is a mess. It has no background or context. It needs someone who understands the concept to give an overview and context. Meanwhile I have done my best (I have not done any statisitcal mecahnics for over 13 years and I hated it then...)--NHSavage 21:26, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
