Farenheit or Centigrade?

Temperatures in the weather data should always be given in Celsius first and then optionally in Farenheit for the American reader. According to Wiki answers, "Only in the United States, Belize, and Jamaica does the Fahrenheit system continue to be used, but only for non-scientific use. The rest of the world has adopted the Celsius scale.". When will Americans wake up to the fact that there is another world out there? Vogensen (talk) 06:57, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

Parks

An article was started for a particular city park , Santa Maria Skate Park]], but there is no mention of any city arks in this article or elswhere in WP. A section should be started here for them, and this article merged in. DGG ( talk ) 16:13, 10 April 2010 (UTC)

Is this group really notable? If so, should it not be listed under "notable residents" instead of having it's own section. If it is a notable group, is it so very important that each individual member name is listed? This looks like a vanity entry to me.... 78.26 (talk) 12:41, 8 October 2010 (UTC)

Notable people section

I removed John Thomas from this section because he does not have a Wikipedia article which is required in order to establish notability. This is the information I deleted "John Thomas- former Major League Baseball Player". Thank you!--Fraulein451 (talk) 17:59, 29 December 2012 (UTC)

Although I agree with you deletion because I can't find any "John Thomas" in Baseball Reference.com that were born in SM, it is "NOT" a requirement that the person have a Wiki article to establish notability (I'm not sure where you heard/read that). There are 1000's of people more important than someone like Brittany Spears or Demi Moore (who have extensive pages) who don't have a page simply because someone hasn't taken the time to write it. Steel Ball Run

I removed the following information from the In Popular Culture section:

"In the Japanese manga series, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, a turn-of-the-century race across the United States from San Diego to New York City takes place as the main story of the story's seventh part, Steel Ball Run. A church in Santa Maria is featured as the first stage finish line and checkpoint for the racers."

I would like to expand the section on local culture by adding more information about Santa Maria–style barbecue, since it is one of the city’s most important and distinctive traditions. The current article mentions the regional cuisine briefly, but I think it could benefit from a fuller explanation. I will use reliable sources such as Food & Wine and local historical archives. Notable people not mentioned

Under your notable people you mentioned Kathy Bates, she was there in SM but, only for a bit. She was there for PCPA at Allen Hancock College, so was Robin Williams. Now the one person you didn't mention here is Kathleen (Gackle) Lloyd. Even though she was born in Santa Clara, Ca. She went to school there in Santa Maria/Orcutt area and graduated from Righetti High School in 66. Alot of my family members went to school with her. She was very active in Drama and that's where she found her calling in the arts. Her father was in poultry farming at Rosemary Farms there in Santa Maria. To check for reference and clarification, Righetti High School 1966, 65, 64 and 63 yearbooks. Righetti HS was opened in 1963. Also, note for John Madden he was on the coaching staff for Righetti HS in 63 only, then he went over to Allen Hancock Jr. College. It was so short it's never been mentioned out there. Again, my family members were there to witness it first hand. I hope this clarifies things here for your page. I'm a stickler for accuracy.
