Errors

This article lists his term as beginning on February 14, 1845. That was when the Senate confirmed his nomination. He did not take his oath, wasn't sworn in, until February 27, 1845.

This article lists how President Tyler failed on previous attempts to fill the vacant seat of Justice Thompson. However, it wrongly includes the names of Edward King and John Read. There are two things wrong with that: first, King & Read were never nominated for Thompson's seat, they were each nominated to fill the vacant seat of Justice Baldwin; and second, John Read was nominated to to Baldwin's seat on February 7, 1845 which is three days after Nelson had been nominated to Thompson's seat. And John Read was never "rejected" by the Senate; the Senate took "No Action" on the nomination (likely on account of Tyler leaving office less than a month later, on March 4, 1845). — Preceding unsigned comment added by McGrupp10799 (talk • contribs) 23:36, 26 July 2018 (UTC)

Retirement or resignation?

On List of Justices of the Supreme Court of the United States, it says retirement. On this page, it says otherwise. What's true? -- Toytoy July 2, 2005 03:46 (UTC)
