If the only (other) witnesses to his killing of the beggar all agreed that he had committed deliberate murder, and Lyde himself was known to be in a deranged mental state... then why do we believe his account of the death as a reaction to an accident? 66.180.185.97 (talk) 23:32, 12 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
WP:OR. The source cited gives two explanations without coming down on either side. In fact, the other source for the paragraph, Figes, positively says it was "accidental". No one knows what happened and who knows whether the women were telling the truth - there could have been any number of motivations. He became deranged after the incident. Let's just stick to what the sources say rather becoming Sherlock Holmes.DeCausa (talk) 08:16, 18 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
