Record company name!

[edit]

Sami Yusuf's only label record company is Andante Records. He is not represented by Awakening Records and information about this record label should be removed from his bio and about. Please check and accept the edit I made HalaW25 (talk) 09:51, 24 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

@HalaW25: Please refer to Template:Infobox Musical Artist#label and to Sami's discography. AlMu'allim and My Ummah were released by Awakening. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Assem Khidhr (talk • contribs) 15:39, 24 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Ecstasy release date and discography update

[edit]

I have a connection to the subject, so per WP:COI I'm proposing this change here rather than editing the article directly.

The article's "2017–present" section currently says:

"Yusuf has said that he plans to release a new album by the name of Ecstasy. While originally planned for 2019, the project was delayed to 2022.[citation needed]"

This is outdated — the album Ecstasy was released in March 2026 through Andante Records.

Requested changes: 1. Replace the sentence above with: "In 2026, Yusuf released the album Ecstasy through Andante Records." 2. Add to the Discography → Studio albums table: Ecstasy (2026).

Add missing studio albums to discography

[edit]

I have a connection to the subject, so per WP:COI I'm proposing this change here rather than editing the article directly.

The "Discography → Studio albums" table is missing several recent albums. I propose adding the following rows:

| Album | Year | | Azerbaijan: A Timeless Presence | 2019 | | ONE: When Paths Meet | 2023 | | L'Amour: When Paths Meet | 2024 | | Alma: When Paths Meet | 2024 | | Ecstasy | 2026 |

These are documented on the artist's official music catalogue (https://samiyusuf.art/music) and on streaming platforms (Apple Music, Deezer, Spotify). Neeharamal (talk) 12:12, 24 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Remove inadequately sourced birth name from lead and infobox

[edit]

I have a connection to the subject, so per WP:COI I'm proposing this change here rather than editing the article directly.

The birth name "Siamak Radmanesh" appears in the lead and the infobox. I believe this name fails WP:V and WP:BLP sourcing standards for a living person:

1. In the infobox, the name is cited to a tabloid item, "Iranian Star £35k Tax Rip Off" (Borehamwood Times, 2001) — a low-quality source that is also unrelated to the subject's identity as a musician.

2. The highest-quality profile of the subject (Aida Edemariam, "Muslim superstar," The Guardian, 2007) does not mention this name at all, describing only that he "was born to Azerbaijani parents, in Tehran."

3. The name does not appear in other major Western outlets; it is found mainly in non-mainstream Iranian sources.

Per WP:BLP, sensitive personal details such as a birth name require high-quality, clearly attributable sourcing. Given that the name is not supported by the strongest available sources, I propose removing "Siamak Radmanesh" from the lead and infobox, and instead describing him simply as born in Tehran to Azerbaijani parents.

Requested changes: 1. Lead: remove "Siamak Radmanesh (Persian: سیامک رادمنش; born 21 July 1980), better known by his stage name" → begin instead with "Sami Yusuf (born 21 July 1980) is…" 2. Infobox "Born" field: remove the name "Siamak Radmanesh," keeping "21 July 1980, Tehran, Iran." Neeharamal (talk) 12:27, 24 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Remove thinly-sourced former name from lead and infobox

[edit]

I have a connection to the subject, so per WP:COI I'm proposing this change here rather than editing the article directly.

I believe the name "Siamak Radmanesh" is given undue prominence by its placement in the lead and the infobox, and should be removed from both. Reasoning:

1. The subject's sole professional and public name is "Sami Yusuf." The former name is not used by the subject and does not appear in the highest-quality English-language coverage — for example, The Guardian's 2007 profile of the subject ("Muslim superstar") describes him only as "born to Azerbaijani parents, in Tehran," with no mention of "Radmanesh."

2. Per WP:BLP and WP:UNDUE, a living person's former name should not be foregrounded in the opening line and infobox as if it were their primary name.

Requested changes: 1. Lead: begin "Sami Yusuf (born 21 July 1980) is a British composer, singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist…" — removing "Siamak Radmanesh (Persian: سیامک رادمنش; born 21 July 1980), better known by his stage name". 2. Infobox "Born" field: remove "Siamak Radmanesh," leaving "21 July 1980, Tehran, Iran." 3. Early life: retain the father's name (Babak Radmanesh, an Iranian composer), and, if the former name is to be kept at all, present it with the "known before migrating to Britain" framing consistent with the BBC source, rather than as his primary name. In the person information box there's a link, that should link to Tar as an instrument (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tar_(drum)), but now it links just to the tar (substance) (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tar). ~2026-53066-70 (talk) 19:22, 3 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
