• Some of the references that are in French should have |language=French in their templates.  Done
• Some of the references seem to be missing |publisher=. Done
• Like others said on Discord, the lead should be a bit longer. Maybe talk more about his playing career, with the Preds and Avs? Done
• "Guylaine Dion" Didn't find her birth name in the article cited. Done
• Midget hockey is minkey, right? Minor ice hockey, right. Done
• "Girard moved in with Julie Robitaille" Best to mention her as a power skating coach here. Done
• "$35 million contract extension with the Avalanche, carrying an annual average of $5 million, on July 31, 2019, Girard." End of this sentence is missing something. Done
• Maybe add his hobby of relaxing to his personal life section. (what hobby?)

Thanks for the new suggestions, but I think sticking to a wording more similar to ALT2 would still be a better option. ALT2a doesn't even mention his brother anymore, and neither of the new hooks mention that his brother played the sport as well which I thought was part of the appeal of the original. Thanks. I'm assuming good faith for the sources used as the NY Times article is paywalled for me and I had to use the French source to verify it (Google Translate seems to confirm it, however). ALT2c is almost good to go, however it could probably be revised slightly as the hook implies that he only got into the NHL because his brother quit playing ice hockey, but from the article it appears that his brother quit when they were young while the subject didn't reach the NHL until later. You're right but I was implying he would never had made it to the NHL if his brother didn't give up the sport because the family couldn't afford both. Also, thanks for AGF but I believe if you put the NYT URL into the Wayback Machine you should be able to bypass the paywall. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 19:04, 8 April 2020 (UTC)

While accurate, I'm not sure if it would be acceptable to others on DYK given that the connection isn't exactly direct. I'm willing to accept it, but I'm worried that if I did, the nomination could stall once it's about to be sent to prep due to possible accuracy concerns. Almost almost there. I really like ALT2d and I think we should be good to go with that one, my only remaining suggestion is to change "able to play" to "able to continue playing" to reflect the article text. In the interest of DYK review purposes, I'm noting that the article meets the other DYK requirements (promoted to GA on time, adequately sourced, free of close paraphrasing with the only flag being a quote that's cited inline). Coverage decay and GA status

The Penguins fan in me is saddened to see that our new acquisition is a GA but is missing almost three seasons of his career in Colorado. I have other things in life going on and other projects already taking most of my specific focus on Wikipedia. Would anyone be willing to put the work in to fix this? It's not unsavable, but it's important this needs to be fixed quickly before it gets much worse. It certainly is not properly representative of a good article right now. mftp dan ^oops 18:06, 25 February 2026 (UTC)
