Heh.....we did this is the Air Force as well....usually to some butterbar (2nd Lt) who still had wet ink on his commissioning papers!
In Germany, near the end of the Cold War, some friends and I once managed to pull this on a poor shavetail who was unfortunate enough to be on crutches. At least he had the good humor to take it with a smile. This practice certainly wasn't restricted solely to the British Army in WWII.--SEWalk (talk) 05:21, 6 September 2013 (UTC)
