This article's name is wrong.
In Yucatec maya, the singular for this dish is sáal buutʼ and the plural is sáal buut' oob
In Yucatec Spanish, the singular is Salbut and plural Salbutes, because the plural from maya origined words that end in vowel is always expressed with an ES, like in Pib, PibES or Joroch, JorochES.
Salbute is NOT a singular in any idiom, including english (because the word doesn't exist in this language).
I live in Yucatán, speak English and Spanish, and agree with you. The English language sources I know all use "salbut" for the singular. For example here and . I see it's gone back and forth a couple of times but I can't find any discussion as to why we're using the non-existent singular "salbute". Maybe Serols or Melsj could explain.
