The current article records several quotes from MP priests suggesting that both the canon for non-Orthodox and vigil service were developed in the 19th century among Old Believers. However, going further into the sources on this, one finds that while there was indeed an Old Believer vigil that was circulated in the Russian Church and subsequently removed, the canon praying for non-Orthodox departed dates back to St. Hermogenes the Patriarch and St. Dimitri of Rostov and is definitely not some old believer innovation as this predates the beginning of the old believers.
