- No-one. It's Norman French - Sint Clair, meaning "clear pool". The surname Sinclair comes from the same source. Grutness|hello?

- On the contrary, the Sinclairs are named after a "Saint Clair" (albeit in a round-about fashion) - Saint Clarus, who was beheaded at what is now called Saint Clair-sur-Epte, which is where the Sinclair family has their early roots. LeeNapier 13:53, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
- Well, looks like there are two different sources then :) The place I live was definitely named from the old term for a clear well, according to every reference I've ever seen about its name's derivation. Grutness...wha? 01:24, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
- Possibly. The "Sinclairs" of Roslin still call themselves "St. Clair" - though they are related by blood to the Sinclairs of Caithness and elsewhere. LeeNapier 14:02, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
