Pro-Moscow warlord in 1999

[edit]

He was a paramilitary leader during the war of Dagestan. He "formed and armed a so-called international brigade of 300 men from amongst his supporters and, together with hundreds of other volunteers, they rushed to western Dagestan to hold off Basaev's men until the arrival of Russian troops. Some weeks later, Amirov formed from this brigade an armed city police force of fifteen hundred men, under his personal command."

He also appealed that "every Dagestani has to react as a patriot and join the volunteers" and in 2005 said that "Leaders of bandit groups that attacked Dagestan in 1999 made a mistake. All people of Dagestan stood up to defend common interests of Russian and Dagestani peoples", etc. --Niemti (talk) 10:32, 4 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thank you, Niemti, very helpful links. I'll expand the article more based on them later. Regards, Iselilja (talk) 00:41, 7 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
