Was the SPG-9 used in the Yom Kippur War?

Anyone know? Syria or Egypt?

Not a Recoilless Rifle

"The SPG-9 Kop'yo (Russian: СПГ-9 Копьё, transliterated: Stankovyi Protivotankovyi Granatomet "Kop'yo" - Easel Anti-tank Grenade Launcher "Spear") is a tripod-mounted man-portable, 73mm caliber recoilless gun developed by the Soviet Union."

The SPG-9 is a Rocket Launcher and not a Recoilless Rifle. It fires the same rockets as the 2A28 Grom. The reason there is a venturi at the rear of the weapon is because it uses a booster charge to blow the rocket clear of the weapon before the sustainer motor ignites. A "Recoilless Rifle" has the entire charge expended inside the barrel, there is no sustainer motor. If the sustainer motor wasn't in the SPG-9 munition the warhead would explode inside the danger zone that included the crew of the weapon. ~2026-39239-07 (talk) 11:45, 10 July 2026 (UTC)
