Rights ownership?
[edit]Is there any information on who actually, and currently, owns the rights to the SAGA system? And, can we include that? Slatzgrubnik (talk) 04:47, 20 November 2012 (UTC)
Two different SAGA systems
[edit]My bad, there seem to be two different SAGA systems:
- One that's related to Scott Adams' Adventure video games (a series of text adventures originally published 1978-1984) that's based on specific VERB-NOUN commands. See Adams' own article, List of Scott Adams Adventure video games, , , and .
- A mid-to-late 1990s game engine to do with card games.
I thus propose a split into SAGA System (card games) and SAGA System (text adventures). --~2026-29045-59 (talk) 01:56, 14 May 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose: This article is not about a card game, it is a tabletop role-playing game system called the "SAGA System" which uses cards as a game mechanic (instead of dice). You apparently added the part about it being named after the games of Scott Adams, but the source you provided does not support that claim, so I suggest removing the part you added rather than "splitting" anything from this article to anywhere else. This system was created by TSR for its 1996 Dragonlance: Fifth Age game and also used it in 1998 for its Marvel Super Heroes Adventure Game, with no acknowledgement from the company that I'm aware of having any intentional naming after Scott Adams or his games. - So, your only reason for voting oppose is that your definition of a card-game engine is different from mine, not that there's not two patently different computer game-engine systems (one from c. 1980 and one from 1996) called SAGA System, as can be reliably sourced. --~2026-29045-59 (talk) 13:58, 14 May 2026 (UTC)
- "Card games" is an inaccurate and poor descriptor; it is not a card game, it is a roleplaying game system. If you want to disambiguate it, you should actually call it SAGA System (role-playing game system) or something like that instead. But that assumes that "SAGA System" is a term actually used by the Scott Adams games at all. The one source you provided says "SAGA series" but never "SAGA System", so I think you need to provide a source that actually calls these games the "SAGA System". Without that, you have no case to make any of these moves you are suggesting. I'll encourage you instead to make an article called SAGA series which would be an excellent place to talk about the video games. As a temp account user you can create Draft:SAGA series and then submit it for AfC review. Or you can build up List of Scott Adams Adventure video games so that it's no longer a simple list and more of a fuller article, and then do a requested move to a new title, which I think would also be excellent. But what you are requesting here, I think that is a non-starter. BOZ (talk) 22:48, 14 May 2026 (UTC)
