- Rutan Defiant seems almost certainly an OCR from a presumably copyrighted printed source (perhaps a sales brochure?) - note "conventjonal" for "conventional", "prQvide" for "provide", "stalt" for "stall", "ful1" for "full, "I.is" for "his" and many other similar errors. --Rlandmann 00:24, 23 Sep 2004 (UTC)

[edit]I've added model 40 and 74 info, reorganized the text slightly for chronological order, and removed the info on the 2nd one built in Australia, as non-notable vanity info (the first on that continent would have been notable). Akradecki 18:23, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
Origin of Name
[edit]It might be interesting to note that the name "Defiant" was a result of the RAF's only public naming contest. The winning entry, Defiant, was submitted by someone who claimed the name came off of a woodburning stove. I don't remember exactly which website I learned that from, but it was a direct quotation from a Rutan interview. LostCause 06:58, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
