I have removed the sentence The abutments, in turn, are built on top of very large bales of cotton as these go harder than concrete when they are wet. because there is no mention of this in the cited references and I suspect it is a myth. If evidence can be found from reliable sources, please reinstate it with an inline citation. Peter I. Vardy (talk) 10:28, 4 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
