Clarification
[edit]An article about rotary dryers should confine itself to drying processes. A rotary kiln used for calcining is not a rotary dryer.BSMet94 04:42, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
OK, I took out the calcining references and clarified the rest of the text a bit. This article still needs some clean-up in the existing text. Also, applications of rotary dryers should be added. Someone put a "See also" for Incineration, possibly indicating that rotary dryers are used somehow in incineration processes. They are, but not to incinerate! A rotary kiln can be used to incinerate material, and a rotary dryer can be used to dry material prior to incineration. A kiln is a kiln and a dryer is a dryer, which was the point I made earlier. - Also some mention needs to be made of the rotary dryers whose heated air/gas enters and exhausts at the same end. I only know that they're quite rare, and employ some kind of internal tube to convey the heat to the end of the dryer - not enough to make a contribution unfortunately. Also, I know of types of indirect rotary dryers that are made up of two tubes, one slightly bigger than the other, with the hot gases in the space between the two. The inner tube is effectively an ordinary rotary dryer, and rotates as such, whereas the outer tube remains stationary. My area of expertise is more centered on the use of dryers in the china clay industry, so I'm mostly only familiar with the types used therein. ▫Bad▫harlick♠ 14:00, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
