The result of the move request was: Not moved, consensus is clear and nominator has withdrawn. (non-admin closure) Crouch, Swale (talk) 17:12, 1 October 2018 (UTC)
Ronaldo → Ronaldo (name) – Ronaldo should redirect to Cristiano Ronaldo per WP:PRIMARYREDIRECT. Cristiano meets the criteria for WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, that are long-term/historical significance and high likeliness of usage. Flooded with them hundreds 08:46, 1 October 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose I disagree. CR7 is usually referred to as "Cristiano Ronaldo" and sometimes even "Cristiano". Robby.is.on (talk) 09:24, 1 October 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose - What about Fat Ronaldo? Cristiano is certainly more popular at the moment, but we shouldn't title our articles based on what is "currently" more popular, especially when considering the names of two living people. – PeeJay 09:26, 1 October 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose per WP:TITLE In ictu oculi (talk) 09:51, 1 October 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose no clear primary topic. Ronaldo (Brazilian footballer) has comparable long term signifiance to Cristiano Ronaldo (as evidenced by their inclusion on List of association football players considered the greatest of all time) Iffy★Chat -- 12:26, 1 October 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose unclear that Cristiano Ronaldo will have more long term importance than Ronaldo (Brazilian footballer), who
won the FIFA World Player of the Year three times
. Not a WP:TWODAB situation either as there are other Ronaldos. power~enwiki (π, ν) 16:30, 1 October 2018 (UTC) - Oppose Most people will search for Cristiano Ronaldo when searching for him. Views [] show that Ronaldo (Brazilian footballer) receives a comparable number of views considering people are much more likely to use just "Ronaldo" when searching for him. The current page is also a WP:DABCONCEPT but could do with more content and sources. Crouch, Swale (talk) 16:48, 1 October 2018 (UTC)
- Withdrawn. Flooded with them hundreds 16:50, 1 October 2018 (UTC)

Add this code to the section #People:
* [[Ronaldo Henrique]] (born 1994), Brazilian footballer * [[Ronaldo Henrique Silva]] (born 1991), Brazilian footballer 76.103.46.252 (talk) 22:57, 11 January 2021 (UTC)
- I've added the two players to the disambiguation page. Thanks, 76.103.46.252. Robby.is.on (talk) 08:32, 12 January 2021 (UTC)
Move discussion in progress
[edit]There is a move discussion in progress on Talk:Ronaldo (Brazilian footballer) which affects this page. Please participate on that page and not in this talk page section. Thank you. —RMCD bot 17:15, 29 April 2023 (UTC)
- The RM has been closed speedily. As with the discussion above, neither footballer is a primary topic for "Ronaldo", but the name itself isn't either (article links 24 Ronaldo vs 1546 Ronaldo (Brazilian footballer); page views 284 vs 7405; search results overwhelmingly for Cristiano Ronaldo.) WikiNav results are also interesting. Would a disambiguation page serve the reader better than assuming incorrectly that a reader visiting Ronaldo seeks information on the name itself? Requested move 10 April 2026
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: no consensus. There is no clear consensus to move at this time. Both sides present valid, policy-based arguments. Editors supporting the move argued that the given name is not the primary topic. Editors opposing emphasize practical navigation, noting that the page on the given name already de facto serves as a WP:DAB page. The community is split on whether the technical distinction between a given name page and a disambiguation page justifies the move in this specific case. (non-admin closure) Feeglgeef (talk) 23:10, 2 May 2026 (UTC)
Ronaldo → Ronaldo (given name) – This does not appear to be the primary topic. I propose turning Ronaldo into a disambiguation page listing this given name, Ronaldo (Brazilian footballer), Cristiano Ronaldo, and Ronaldo (film). ~2026-22170-94 (talk) 22:35, 10 April 2026 (UTC) — Relisting. - Already proposed, above, and opposed heavily. Seasider53 (talk) 23:21, 10 April 2026 (UTC)
- Note that the previous RM also wanted to turn Ronaldo into a redirect to Cristiano Ronaldo, and the opposition was concerned with that part of the proposal. Wburrow (talk) 14:17, 11 April 2026 (UTC)
- Support A name article is not the same as a DAB page. Also see WP:CCC. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 05:21, 11 April 2026 (UTC)
- Support Cristiano Ronaldo, a popular Ronaldo, is incorrectly listed on this given name page. An actual dab is needed.—Bagumba (talk) 07:09, 11 April 2026 (UTC)
- Support – The given name is definitely not the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. Ronaldo should redirect to Ronaldo (disambiguation), which should in turn be converted into a proper DAB page. Wburrow (talk) 14:34, 11 April 2026 (UTC)
- No, the redirect to the dab is fine as is per WP:HOWTODAB. If the move is approved, Ronaldo could be WP:USURPTITLEd to a dab. —Bagumba (talk) 17:26, 11 April 2026 (UTC)
- Got it, thanks for pointing that out. So I support the nom in full (dab page at Ronaldo with Ronaldo (disambiguation) remaining a redirect to Ronaldo). Wburrow (talk) 17:54, 11 April 2026 (UTC)

- Oppose Unless I'm missing something, there are only two articles on Wikipedia about "Ronaldo" that aren't the given name: Ronaldo (film) and Cristiano Ronaldo. Do we really need a whole article for that? A hatnote works fine. 162 etc. (talk) 16:26, 11 April 2026 (UTC)
- @162 etc. There is also Ronaldo (Brazilian footballer). ~2026-22454-55 (talk) 11:27, 12 April 2026 (UTC)
- Ronaldo (Brazilian footballer) would be listed at the given name page, not the dabpage. 162 etc. (talk) 17:13, 12 April 2026 (UTC)
- Per WP:NAMELIST because the Brazilian footballer is clearly known as just "Ronaldo" he would be listed at the general DAB as well. Crouch, Swale (talk) 17:30, 12 April 2026 (UTC)
- I stand by my above argument that the disambiguation page is unnecessary in this case. 162 etc. (talk) 17:54, 12 April 2026 (UTC)
- The Brazilian footballer is clearly a third term needing disambiguation per WP:NAMELIST:
... articles on people should be listed at the disambiguation page for their given name or surname only if they are reasonably well known by it.

- Weak support the given name has 5,148 views and the Brazilian footballer has 173,254 but the film has 793 and Cristiano Ronaldo has 658,462[]. Crouch, Swale (talk) 18:17, 11 April 2026 (UTC)
- Comment: Why does this have to be a name list? Couldn't we just tweak it a bit and turn it into a dabpage? We'd only need to add two entries, rather than shunting most of the Ronaldos into a separate article a click away. Ladtrack (talk) 23:44, 11 April 2026 (UTC)
- Note: This discussion has been included in WikiProject Football's list of association football-related page moves. GiantSnowman 08:49, 12 April 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose - absolutely pointless disambiguator. GiantSnowman 08:50, 12 April 2026 (UTC)
- Weak support. "Ronaldo" seems to have no primary topic, so a dab should occupy the base name. Several people such as Ronaldo Cezar Soares dos Santos are known mononymously as "Ronaldo", so may also merit a dab entry. (As some of them are Brazilian, Ronaldo (Brazilian footballer) is a partial disambiguation). However, the existing name article, which is mainly a list of people, quacks like a dab and may be an acceptable substitute. Certes (talk) 21:58, 12 April 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose: Yes, it's technically correct that no PTOPIC means it should be a disambiguation page, but this is a situation where I think it may be straight up detrimental to do so. Ronaldo has a hatnote for Ronaldo (film) and at the very top of the list of names, which is immediately visible to a reader, are links to Ronaldo (Brazilian footballer) and Cristiano Ronaldo. What exactly are we accomplishing with a DAB here? A DAB would get people looking for the movie or one of the footballers to the same place in the same number of clicks, and increases the number of clicks for anyone looking for something else by one. I'm not seeing the advantage. ⹃Maltazarian ᚾparleyinvestigateᛅ 16:40, 17 April 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose per 162 etc. * Pppery * it has begun... 16:53, 18 April 2026 (UTC)
- Weak support, it would probably be slightly more useful to organize the players known just as "Ronaldo" from those other ones that just have the first name. Anf it should be organized in a way that points to the 2 more famous Ronaldo's.--Ortizesp (talk) 14:32, 20 April 2026 (UTC)
