I am Romero Rodrigues, the subject of this article. Declaring a conflict of interest and requesting rather than editing.
The article states Buscapé was sold to Naspers for "US$342 million", sourced to IDG Now! (2009). Fortune (2023) reports US$374 million.
Proposed change to the second paragraph:
- From: In 2009, Buscapé was sold to the South African company
Naspers for US$342 million.
- To: In 2009, Buscapé was sold to the South African company
Naspers for US$374 million.
Reference to add: Mathews, Jessica (July 25, 2023). "How VC Headline notched a 30% stake in Brazil's biggest startup acquisition in 5 years". Fortune. {{cite news}}: line feed character in |title= at position 64 (help)
The two figures are not contradictory: the lower one is the amount paid for a majority stake, the higher one the implied valuation. I am not proposing that explanation in the article without a source that states it. Editors may prefer to keep both figures with attribution. I defer to whichever reading you consider best supported. RomaRomaRoma77 (talk) 19:26, 22 September 2026 (UTC)
- Sourcing for both figures. To be clear that this is not WP:SYNTH: each number is stated directly by a source, and one source states both.
- 91% for US$342 million: "Naspers acquires majority stake in BuscaPe". Computer Business Review. 27 September 2009. — "Naspers has acquired 91% stake of Brazilian e-commerce group BuscaPe.com for $342m."
- US$374 million valuation: Mathews, Jessica (25 July 2023). "How VC Headline notched a 30% stake in Brazil's biggest startup acquisition in 5 years". Fortune. — "...selling his company BuscaPé, a price comparison website he started in 1998, for $374 million in 2009."
- Suggested wording for the existing sentence: "In 2009, Naspers acquired 91% of Buscapé for US$342 million, in a deal that valued the company at US$374 million."
- I have a conflict of interest and am not editing the article directly. RomaRomaRoma77 (talk) 21:23, 22 September 2026 (UTC)
