Motives of Landau's support for Morrocan independence

In the section on Morrocan independence (World war 2) it's stated that "After the war, Landau returned to North Africa and he established close personal ties there with Sultan Mohammed V of Morocco and other Arab leaders of liberation movements. Landau discreetly supported the groups, but his interest in the cause of Arab independence would seem to have been motivated more by a traditionalist's wish to slow the region's modernisation and Europeanisation than to improve the common people's living standard"

There is no source cited and this sentence is problematic and build on the premise that independence means Morocco to be not modern and staying traditionalist. I think this is questionable and reflects the individual views of the author of this section rather than facts. Why even should a 'traditionalist' equalize self-determination (e.g. revolutionary change) with backwardness? Does not make sense to me CatsWithSocks (talk) 18:43, 12 April 2023 (UTC)

I ended up deleting the second part of the sentence because I could find no source for it and I agree with you that the sentence is speculative and problematic. Wisenose (talk) 13:12, 2 April 2024 (UTC)
