The profile is infamy. He is much referred to into the Post Office Enquiry, with youtube video evidence online. He is notable in part for his style - he plays for time and asks if he can stop to go the loo just to avoid being asked questions by the look of it. At another point a journalist letter asks if he will do an interview on the quality and usability of Horizon software for postmasters. He talks about how he couldn't quite believe it was a real (meaning adult) question, and drafts a brush-off. He calls himself "cynical".
He is also notable as part of the team which used private prosecutions to wrongly imprison large numbers of sub-postmasters while getting false confessions from others on the threat. He showed no interest in putting-right the faulty software (getting hold of the code for auditing, reading Computer Weekly articles, checking whether "stolen" money can be traced, checking claims that "we track every key stroke"). He gives a very carefully prepared account of what dates he admits to becoming aware of various bugs in this hard-to-use software, such as a tendency to double the amount due to head office if it stalled and a postmaster pressed "return" again.
In his own words, roughly remembered, it gives him no pride to be associated with one of the largest miscarriages of justice in British legal history, but as in-house lawyer we have yet to hear judge's conclusions on his role in it. ~2026-16262-88 (talk) 18:18, 15 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
It could be that links to inquiry conclusions, when it comes, and to his video cross-examination, would make sense of this to someone who has never heard of the Post Office Inquiry and the large number of false prosecutions. ~2026-16262-88 (talk) 18:20, 15 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
Another area of infamy. One of the "auditors" hired by the Post Office Investigations department had been a TV licence investigator. Their role was not to audit or investigate in any way to justify the job title. Nobody at Post Office Limited changed this. RW as in-house lawyer was one of those facing questions about what he could or should have done, what he knew etc. ~2026-16262-88 (talk) 18:28, 15 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
