Least populous commune in France

[edit]

With a population of one person, Rochefourchat may be the least populous commune in France which has any population at all, but technically, there are six communes in France that have no population at all (as of the 1999 census). They are: Beaumont-en-Verdunois, Bezonvaux, Cumières-le-Mort-Homme, Fleury-devant-Douaumont, Haumont-près-Samogneux, and Louvemont-Côte-du-Poivre, all of which were communities that were destroyed in the Battle of Verdun in World War I, but were never rebuilt afterwards. They are all located in the département of Meuse in the Lorraine region of northeastern France. Unfortunately, there are few articles on these communes in the English language version of Wikipedia, but the French version does have more extensive articles. Is Jeanne a man's name then?

[edit]

The first paragraph says the sole inhabitant is a divorced man, and the second paragraph says the inhabitant is named Jeanne. I've always understood Jeanne to be a woman's name, of which the men's equivalent is Jean. What gives? 72.82.227.247 (talk) 03:12, 15 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

This commune comprises several holiday homes (according to fr:Rochefourchat), and there are 18 registered voters and a municipal council of 9 members. There's no evidence that Jeanne Isoard is the current inhabitant, so I've removed this claim. Korg (talk) 14:41, 7 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
