Place of death

"He and his father died in the same city..." Huh? That paragraph lists one village and one town, but no cities (Cambridge did not become a city until the 20th century). So just what is this referring to? PMLawrence (talk) 07:40, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

Possible plagiarism?

There is a [citation needed] between reference 11 and reference 12. The missing citation is to the same book by Clark referred to in 11 page 174 quoting Bentham. Impossible genealogy

"surrounded by his descendants to the tenth generation." Filmer lived from 1588 to 1653, or 65 years. 10 generations of descendants implies that everyone in the line reproduced at age 6. This seems unlikely. ferren (talk) 12:47, 5 October 2016 (UTC)

Mushroom quotation

The article stated formerly that one of Filmer's tractates "is the source for the famous quotation from Hobbes, asserting that people "as mushrooms... sprung out of the earth without any obligation one to another". I don't understand in what sense Filmer can be the source of the quotation as Hobbes himself uses these words, in De cive 8.1, Opera Latina vol. 2 p. 249. I therefore deleted this statement; please restore it if you can find any sense in it.--Oudeístalk 15:17, 25 October 2021 (UTC)
