I rewrote most of this page and added a lot of content, as I had promised long ago. I also added recent two references where the general theory can be found. The article could benefit from a concrete example of an application of the equation, perhaps from both biology and economics. Marc Harper 19:16, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

Quick question. What are the restrictions/admissible forms for the f_i(x) function in the first equation? Oh, and hey there Will.radek (talk) 01:47, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

What do you mean? They can be essentially anything that you want, though the most common form is f_i(x) = (Ax)_i (ith entry of the matrix product) so that the fitness function as a vector f(x) = [f_1,..., f_n] = Ax . If you want the differential equation to have nice properties the f_i should be relatively nice, but the need only be integrable to solve the equation (in principle).
